ASSOS Behramkale and Ida – Kazdağı Mountain Tour...

An unforgettable tour to Assos and aegean...

The Mysian city of Assos was founded in 8th century BC by colonists from Lesbos, who later built its great temple to Athena in 530 BC. Byzantium and finally Ottoman Turks were the last owners of the city.

The area is called Assos in ancient times, the ruins and village of Behramkale share a gorgeous setting, overlooking the Aegean and the nearby island of Lesbos (Mytilini)

Assos makes a brave sight as you approach, its craggy summit surrounded by huge remnants of a mighty wall. The main part of the village and the acropolis ruins are perched at the top, but down the far (sea) side of the hill at the iskele (wharf), a tiny cluster of stone buildings clings to the cliff ina romantic and unlikely setting. There is a short, narrow pebble beach.
Ida “Kazdagi” Mountain called as the oxygen tent of the area is famous with the nature and its mithologyl stories. We will surely visit the Tahtakuslar local ethnographical museum and the tahtali nomads village. Adatepe a typical greek-turkish village and Zeus altar with its great view is worth seeing too.
